Progress We’ve Made

  • Victory Junction & CPI Partnership

    Through this partnership, #PackUnited and over 40 other student-athletes put together 1,000 magic kits.

  • Rise Against Hunger

    During meal packing events with Rise Against Hunger, #PackUnited has put together 30,000 meals that were sent to Liberia.

  • Habitat for Humanity

    In the spring, a group of athletes worked to build houses for those in our community with Habitat for Humanity.

  • Community Donations

    #PackUnited has donated over $10,500 in funds raised back to community non-profits that align with the 3 pillars.

2023

June

  • #PackUnited Sponsored a food truck for the NC State Juneteenth Celebration Event. There were a total of 500 students and staff in attendance. (6/19)

2022

February:

  • Worked with Partnership Elementary to provide student-athlete mentors. Student-athletes met weekly with boys and girls to provide the tools for success. 

April:

  • 40 student-athletes partnered with CPI to build 1000 magic kits for Victory Junction summer camps for kids with illnesses (4/4)

Spring 2022:

  • #PackUnited will donate $7,000 to non profit organizations that address educational equity, food insecurity, and housing. The breakdown for those donations are:

August:

  • Girls Club of Raleigh Renovation

    • With a $50,000 donation from Adidas, #PackUnited transformed the Girls Club of Raleigh by updating the gym with a fresh mural and equipment. Click this link to watch a video and learn more about the project. https://youtu.be/NwPkfXLHUWE?feature=shared

September:

  • Hosted our second annual #PackUnited week which consisted of initiatives centered around the three pillars and impacting the community. 

    Events included:

    • The #PackUnited Expo that aimed to fostering fellowship and civic engagement on campus. The event took place at Harris Field from 5-7PM. The expo blended entertainment, education, and community engagement by providing food trucks, music, games and resources to learn more about voter registration. Tables were displayed for attendees with resources and guidance on the electoral process. Volunteers were on hand to assist those interested in registering to vote. (9/12)

    • At the men’s soccer game vs JMU, #PackUnited held a canned food drive for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. People were encouraged to drop off donations at the front gate. (9/13)

2021

January:

  • #PackUnited partnered with the Wolfpack Outfitters to sell the first #PackUnited t-shirts online. 650 shirts were sold. Portions of the proceeds were donated to support programs that help with educational equity, food and housing insecurity, and overall emphasis toward social justice work. 

  • The football team watched the film American Skin together and had a subsequent dialogue and discussion about scenes in the film. This session included the entire team, coaches, staff and AD. Staff from OIED and Sport Psychology were in attendance in a support role (1/31)

February-April:

  • In collaboration with Athletics Creative Services, “Pack Talks” were hosted by student-athletes Grant Gibson (Football) and Melissa Evans (Volleyball). They focused on covering issues related to the student-athlete experience. #PackUnited “Real Talk” conversations continued on campus between student-athletes in regard to Imposter Syndrome, Leading with Confidence, and “Taking off the Mask: An Unfiltered Conversation about Transformational Leadership” a discussion between Drake Thomas, a white football student-athlete and Isaiah Moore, a black student-athlete. 

April:

  • Joint meeting with SAAC/#PackUnited with the campus police Chief House and Major Kendricks. Chief House asked for the students' input on creating more engagement with student athletes and the campus police. As a result a student athlete-campus police engagement committee was formed (4/18)

  • ACC Unity Walk, an opportunity for student-athletes, coaches, and staff to unite with the general campus community to celebrate DEI, bring awareness to disparities, and empower participants for continued action. (4/23)

April-May:

July:

  • Purchased and donated school supplies to Salvation Army’s Project Catch for homeless kids.

September:

  • Hosted our first annual #PackUnited week which consisted of initiatives centered around the three pillars and impacting the community. 

    Events included:

    • Hosted a donor dinner for Wolfpack Club members, CPI, and administrators to educate the audience on Pack United’s mission, accomplishments, and next steps.

    • Sold T-shirt’s through Wolfpack Outfitters to support initiatives- raised $10,000 to donate to non-profit organizations 

    • Held donation drives at multiple sporting events on campus to donate to and support local charity organizations within the Raleigh community. Women’s soccer collected school supplies, men’s soccer collected food (canned goods, etc), and volleyball collected toiletries.

October:

  • During ACC Unity week, #PackUnited sponsored a meal packing event with Rise Against Hunger and packed 10,000 meals to be sent to Liberia. (10/26)

Other Accomplishments: Student-athletes partnered with Neighbor to Neighbor to provide weekly mentors for their students in multiple school subjects, as well as group mentoring to introduce the young students to new sports and teach them the importance of teamwork.

2020

June

  • SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Council) created a collage of pictures of student-athletes holding the names of black victims of racial injustice and police brutality in response to the murder of George Floyd. The challenge was made for teams to bring awareness through their social media accounts. This meeting sparked the beginning of what became #PackUnited, a dedicated group of NC State student-athletes to fight social injustice in our country.   • #PackUnited collaborated with Pack Athletics in creating a graphic to acknowledge and bring awareness to the Juneteenth Celebration. SAAC also posted a Juneteenth graphic on social media. (6/19)

  • Recommended revision by #PackUnited of the language in the student-athlete Code of Conduct to better reflect diversity, equity and inclusivity. 

August:

  • #PackUnited student-athletes were trained as Pack the Poll Ambassadors to facilitate voting registration for each Wolfpack team. (8/17)

September:

  • #PackUnited organized a peaceful demonstration on campus. There were 300+ student-athletes, coaches, and staff in attendance. Student leaders and the men’s basketball coach spoke. The program concluded after all in attendance took a knee in remembrance of George Floyd for 8.46 minutes. (9/12)

  • The design of a #PackUnited patch inclusive of the 3 Pillars (Action, Awareness, and Education) was created in collaboration with student-athletes, Athletics and the College of Textiles. The patch was displayed on the football jerseys and has subsequently been worn by other teams. (9/14)

  • #PackUnited partnered with Pack the Polls, a campus initiative on voting and civic engagement, with a goal to get 100% of eligible student-athletes registered to vote. 18 teams achieved 100% voter registration. (9/30)

August-October:

  • #PackUnited “Real Talk” conversations led by student-athletes on August 31st, September 21st, and October 26th. Topics discussed included racial/social injustice and student-athletes’ experiences with police brutality, the definition of “privilege” and exploring the impact of using social media platforms in bringing awareness to issues of social injustice. 

October:

  • #PackUnited becomes a registered student organization on the NC State campus. (10/10)

  • Several #PackUnited members represented NC State Athletics in educational sessions on campus including the NC State and the UNC System Racial Equity Summit.

November:

  • #PackUnited student-athletes voted early and used Election Day as a day of Civic Engagement. Volunteer efforts took place at local food pantries. (11/3)

December:

  • #PackUnited met with Boo Corrigan and a representative from CPI to have a conversation regarding CPI’s request to renew the relationship as a corporate partner of Athletics in the wake of remarks made by the CPI CEO. (12/8)

Other Accomplishments: #PackUnited partnered with Centennial Middle school to provide student-athlete virtual mentors for middle school students of color. Student-athletes meet weekly with boys and girls to provide the tools for success.
